New Treasures

This is like a perfume case. So pretty. Click to enlarge.
Seems all I am doing is shopping lately, but, this is the season,
then will be along cold winter without garage sales.
Sure glad there is a flea market in the winter here. =)
sweet little pill box. Only about 2". (pills not included) =)
HUGE bird cage. almost 4' tall.
Little Grater my brother gave me.
Anyone know about it? Only about 4" tall, has a lid,
and inside is this other grate sort of thing.
Here is the back.

Thanks for coming by.

Hello Barbara Jean!
I believe what you have is an antique nutmeg grater. If you google that name and look at the images, you will see many of the same. (I used to collect old kitchen utensils, graters, bakeware etc. Had to stop when I no longer had a place to display :-( I really need to stop by the store one of these days. I would love to chat with you. Take care, --Leslie

That's a nutmeg grinder. You put the little nuts in there until you need them.
I want the bird cage!

The thing you brother give to you is a nutmeg graper. In Holland it was something that was used much ,so here you can still buy them

Have a great day

The perfume locket is lovely as is the pillbox. I bet someone will do something great with that birdcage. No idea about the grater. I don't use many gadgets -- new or old. Hope your day is great. Tammy

That little grater is for whole nutmeg, usually for baking of eggnog or things like that.

Hi Barbara Jean,
You sure made some amazing finds! My guess on that little grater is that it's for nutmeg. The grated spice falls inside and sprinkles out the slotted end.

I wish we had garage sales where I can harvest these kind of treasures around here!!
Blessings,
Patricia :o)

Your little grater is a nutmeg grater and the whole nutmeg are stored inside it until use. I have one also.

That is some bird cage!! You could fit one big bird in there :) I love the little pill box, it sure is a lot prettier than the plastic one that I use.
I enjoyed all the pretty whites in the previous post too....lovely wedding dress!
